MARSHAL'S OFFICE

The Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, Section 13 Article 1881 established the office of City Marshal and reads, “The Marshal is the executive officer of the court. He or she shall execute the orders and mandates of the court and in the execution thereof, and in making arrests and preserving the peace, the Marshal has the same powers and authorities of a Sheriff.”

 

The mission of the Zachary City Marshal's Office is to provide professional Law Enforcement services to the public by maintaining order and protecting life and property as dictated by the City Court of Zachary. ​

Marshal Lawrence was born and raised in our community and has committed 36 years of his life to serving and protecting the people of our city.  From his humble beginnings as a volunteer police officer to becoming Assistant Police Chief, Marshal Lawrence has demonstrated exceptional leadership, integrity, and a deep-rooted commitment to our city. His historic election as Zachary's first African American Police Chief and Marshal in December of 2022, is a milestone for him and our community

​As Court Marshal, he serves as the executive officer of the court and has appointed 3 deputy marshals having the same powers and authority as the Marshal.

DEPUTY COURT MARSHALS

SERVICES

Safety Procedures:

The Deputy Marshals are responsible for maintaining security within the courtroom and court facilities, ensuring the safety of judges, court personnel, attorneys, and the public. 

Court Security:
All persons and property entering the City Court building are subject to inspection by security personnel, including metal detectors, as well as visual and physical inspections.  The Marshal has the authority to refuse entrance of any person into the courtroom deemed inappropriately dressed. ​​The Marshal may confiscate, and inventory contraband found on persons entering the city courthouse, fugitives and persons violating the law.  

Enforcement of Orders and Mandates:
The Marshal ensures that court rulings, judgments, and other legal processes are followed and enforced within the municipality.   They call court to order and maintain proper decorum in court whenever court is in session and act as liaison between the judge, attorneys, courtroom staff and the public in order to ensure the orderly conduct of court business.  Any persons found violating the proper decorum or conduct may be removed from the courtroom, hallway or entryway by security personnel who are charged with the enforcement of this policy.

 

Serving Warrants, Subpoenas, and Writs:

Marshals often handle the service of warrants and subpoenas, summons, and writs ensuring that individuals are properly notified of court proceedings.

Protection of City Government Property:
The Marshal serves as full protectors of City government property and enforce all laws pertaining to City government property.
